Things I Wrote
I am reading a tongue in cheek book called-you guessed it-the Between Boyfriends Book. It is by one of the writers for sex and the city, and for those who know me well that in itself is reason enough for me to purchase a book(except for the actual Book Sex and the City-that book sucked as much as the show is great). This book also seemed like a good idea because 1. I am between boyfriends(so much better than being single. you know, between jobs is better than unemployed, between boyfriends is better than single!) 2. because i need a laugh, and 3. i need to know there are many other between boyfriends people out there and reading about how bad they have it might make me feel good!
As far as one and two go, pretty much fills the need. Number three is definitely there because this woman married a man who is now gay and as a result dates men who are beer swigging, crotch grabbing, football jersey wearing, alphabet burping overly macho men out of a fear that any other man might secretly be gay.
All that aside, I just read an chapter that made a lot of sense for me. After she broke up with a long term boyfriend one of her friends told her "Remember, now you have 17 bad dates before you have a good one!" Now we all know this isn't true. Sometimes lightning strikes twice and your rebound is your love. Come to think of it though, that might just be a singleton(thank you Bridget Jones) Urban Legend, for I have heard of this ellusive long term rebound, but never seen it with my own two eyes. We also know that sometimes it could be 40 bad dates(dear god i HOPE not!) but I agree withe the author(her name is Cindy Chupak-it is her book, i guess I should give credit) and her freind that 17 seems a pretty accurate estimate.
When I think about this though, I wonder what the hell I am doing. Right now I am waiting until I am "ready" to date again. Does that mean that I am waiting until I am ready for a long term thing? I think so. But that seems a little pointless when experience tells me that the long term thing probably wont be around for a while. So why wait until i am ready for a long term thing and then all i can get are 1 and two miserable to semi miserable to not so miserable but absolutely no chemistry dates. Why not start my 17 dates now, get them out of the way, and maybe, just maybe I will be ready for the long term thing at the same time as the long term thing finds me.
And maybe, just maybe, the 17 bad dates are actually what we all need to prepare us for the long term thing. So basically, if you are or know a decent, clean, not living with parents over the age of 30, intelligent(not necessarilly degreed, but intelligent) funny guy that lives in Michigan send him my way in about three months. I am starting out on my 17 bad date journey right now.
